Live up on one of the Viewbank streets that look out over the Yarra valley and the Banyule Flats, and the bin you hire is almost always for one of two jobs: a renovation finally underway inside, or a big established garden taken right back outside. Binswest has been putting bins on driveways across Melbourne’s north-east since 2010, and on these generous 1970s and 80s blocks the good news usually arrives early. There is room beside the house, so the skip sits on your own concrete rather than the road, and a 2m3 mini starts from $250. Tell us your street and roughly what is coming out, and we will match the bin to the load before you commit to anything.
That covers the two ends of bin hire in Viewbank, the home renovation and the garden overhaul, and the rest of this page sets out the sizes, the prices in writing, the council permit answer, and how soon a skip can be on your block.
A Reno or an Established-Garden Clear: Which Skip Suits
The size you book follows the job, and out here the job tends to fall into one of two shapes.
A single-room refit, a tired bathroom or a kitchen coming out, usually sits well in a 4m3. There is enough room for cabinetry, old tiling, plasterboard and the mixed offcuts a renovation throws off, without paying for space you will not fill. Step up to a 6m3 when a second room joins in, or when the job adds flooring and built-in joinery on top of the strip-out.
A garden clear on one of these larger blocks runs differently. Prunings, hedge cut-backs and the long-overdue clearing of a bank that has filled in over the years are bulky rather than heavy, so a 6m3 often suits where a renovation of the same value would take less. If you are only resetting a front garden or shifting a weekend of green waste, a 2m3 or 3m3 mini is usually plenty.
Here is the quick version:
- 2m3 or 3m3: a front-garden reset, a small clean-out, a weekend of green waste
- 4m3: a single-room renovation, a bathroom or kitchen strip-out
- 6m3: a two-room refit, or a heavy established-garden clear
- 8m3 and larger: a whole-house declutter or a major landscaping overhaul
If you are not sure which way your job leans, describe it to us on the phone. We size a few dozen of these a week across Banyule, the same daily round that covers bin hire in Bellfield and bin hire in Bundoora, so a rough account of what is coming out is usually enough to land on the right bin.
About Binswest
Binswest is a family-owned waste business that has been operating since 2010, founded by Mark and run out of a depot in Sunshine North. Across that time we have served more than 6,000 clients, from homeowners doing a one-off clean-out to builders and businesses on repeat work.
What sets the back end apart is where your load goes after pickup. Every bin comes back to our Government-Approved Waste Transfer Station, where the material is sorted rather than tipped straight to landfill. In 2024 that process recovered 41% of what we collected for recycling and a further 35% for repurposing, leaving 24% to landfill. For a Viewbank garden clear or a renovation strip-out, that means the timber, metal, soil and clean fill get pulled out and put back to use wherever they can be, not buried by default.
Pricing for Bin Hire in Viewbank
We publish a starting price for every size, so you can plan the job without chasing a quote form first.
-

-
priced on quote
The starting price covers delivery, the standard hire period and collection within our service area. The final figure depends on the size you choose and what goes in, because heavier loads such as soil, brick and concrete are weight-limited for safe transport. A garden-only bin is booked at a lower green-waste rate, which is why a planting clear costs less than the same-size general load. Tell us what you are clearing and we will confirm a flat price up front. Our best-price guarantee means no hidden charges between the booking and the bill.
How Soon a Skip Reaches Your Viewbank Block
Viewbank sits on our daily north-east run, so reaching it is part of the regular round rather than a special trip, and there is no out-of-zone surcharge for the distance. Book before 9am and a same-day drop is often available, depending on how full the day already is. Anything booked later usually lands next day.
Our standard rhythm is a Monday drop-off and a Thursday pickup, with the bin yours for the days in between. A typical hire runs three to seven days, and if your renovation or garden job runs longer than planned, extensions are easy to arrange. We operate six days a week, Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday 7am to 1pm, and online enquiries come through any day, Sundays included.

Placing a Skip on a Viewbank Driveway, and When Banyule Asks for a Permit
This is where a Viewbank booking tends to be simpler than an inner-suburb one. Most homes here sit on generous blocks with a proper driveway and room beside the house, so the skip can stand on your own property for the length of the hire. When a bin sits on private ground, no council permit is needed.
A placement permit from the City of Banyule only comes into it when the skip has to sit on the road, the nature strip or the footpath. That is uncommon out here, though it does happen on a tighter frontage or a steeper block where the driveway will not take the bin. If that is your situation, we will flag it when you book and talk you through it, and you can confirm the current permit conditions and fee directly with the City of Banyule. When you call, let us know where you are thinking of putting the bin and we will confirm whether the council needs to be involved before anything is delivered.

What You Can and Can’t Put in the Bin
Our bins take household waste, renovation and building waste, and garden and green waste, which covers almost everything a Viewbank job generates. You can mix general household rubbish, prunings, soil and renovation debris in the one bin in most cases, though dense material such as soil and rubble is weight-limited, so it is worth telling us if the load is heavy.
A few things cannot go in any skip, by law and for safety: asbestos, flammable liquids, wet paint, gas bottles, tyres and batteries. One flag worth raising on the older homes here is asbestos, which can sit in the sheeting, eaves and bathroom linings of a 1970s or 80s build and has to be handled by a licensed removalist, never dropped in a bin. These items need specialised disposal and are kept out to protect the crew and the sorting line. If you are unsure about a particular item, ask us when you book and we will point you the right way. The full list of what is and is not accepted is set out on our guide to what is allowed in our skip bins.
- Wet Paints
Liquid paints or leftover tins
- Flammable Liquid
Petrol, thinners, solvents, oils
- Asbestos
Any bonded or loose asbestos
- Gas Bottles
BBQ cylinders, LPG tanks
- Tyres. Batteries*

Sizing a Valley-Edge Garden Load
Gardens here run bigger than the bin most people picture. Blocks back onto or look across to the Banyule Flats and the Yarra corridor, and the established planting that comes with a decades-old garden fills more space than a green bin or a trailer will ever swallow once you start cutting it back in earnest.
The thing to watch with a garden load is that it deceives you on volume. A heap of branches and hedge clippings looks manageable on the lawn, then half-fills a 4m3 the moment it goes in loose. If you are clearing a long-neglected bank, taking out old shrubs by the roots, or resetting a whole rear garden, lean toward the 6m3 rather than the size that looks right from the back step. Soil and turf are the exception in the other direction: they are heavy, so a smaller bin with a weight allowance often suits a load that is mostly dirt. Describe the mix to us and we will steer you to the size that fits both the volume and the weight.

Bin Hire Viewbank: Your Questions Answered
For a full garden overhaul on one of the larger blocks here, a 6m3 is usually the safer call, because cut-back branches and old planting take up far more room loose than they look on the ground. A front-garden reset or a weekend of green waste fits a 2m3 or 3m3 mini. If the load is mostly soil or turf, a smaller bin with a weight allowance often works better than a big one. Describe what is coming out and we will match it.
In most cases, yes. The driveways on these blocks are generally wide enough to take a bin, and our truck delivers and collects it in place. Where a frontage is tight or a block falls away sharply, tell us when you book and we will confirm the safe spot before delivery, or work out an alternative so the bin is not left somewhere awkward.
No. A City of Banyule placement permit is only required when a skip sits on the road, the nature strip or the footpath. A bin on your own driveway or within your property does not need one, which covers most Viewbank jobs. If yours has to go kerbside, we will let you know at booking and you can confirm the current conditions and fee with the council.
Viewbank is on our daily north-east run, so there is no waiting on a special trip and no distance surcharge. Book before 9am and a same-day drop is often available; later bookings usually arrive next day. The standard hire runs Monday drop-off to Thursday pickup, with extensions if the job overruns.
