Handing back keys on a tired rental near the La Trobe or RMIT campuses, with a unit full of left-behind furniture and one week to empty it? Or planning the family-home renovation on a bigger block out west toward Plenty Road? Those two jobs make up most of the bin hire Binswest has handled in Bundoora since 2010, and the skip is the same answer to both. The bigger thing to settle first is the council, because Bundoora is split three ways and which one covers your street decides the paperwork. Phone 0427 166 444 and we will size the bin and put a price on it before you commit to anything.

Which Council Covers Your Bundoora Street: Banyule, Darebin or Whittlesea?

Most suburbs answer to one council. Bundoora answers to three. The bulk of the suburb sits in the City of Banyule, but the western boundary runs close to the City of Darebin and the eastern and northern fringes brush the City of Whittlesea, so a handful of streets are governed by a different authority than their neighbours two corners away. That sounds like trivia until a skip goes kerbside, because the council that covers your address is the one that issues the placement permit.

Here is where it actually matters, and where it does not.

  • On your own driveway, hardstand or front yard, the bin sits on private property, no placement permit applies, and the three-council question never comes up.
  • On the road, nature strip or footpath, a placement permit is required, and the right council has to be the one named on it.

So tell us the street, not just the suburb, and we will confirm which council covers it before anything is booked. Where a permit is needed we will say which authority issues it and that the council charges its current placement-permit fee, which we settle with you at the time rather than quoting a guessed number here. If the skip is staying on your block, there is no permit and no fee, and you will know that up front.

About Binswest

Binswest was founded in 2010 by Mark and has worked out of Sunshine North ever since, serving more than 6,000 clients across Melbourne’s western, northern, CBD and inner suburbs. The daily run up to the north-east, Bundoora included, is part of the weekday schedule rather than a special trip, which is the whole reason a booking out this way gets the same service as a job around the corner from the yard. Roughly a quarter of new work now arrives through word of mouth from previous customers.

Every Bundoora load comes back to our Government-Approved Waste Transfer Station in Sunshine North, where it is sorted instead of tipped straight into the ground. In 2024 that sorting recovered 41% of material for recycling and a further 35% for repurposing, leaving 24% for landfill. A small, accredited team carrying close to 100 years of combined experience runs the sorting and the support, the bins are fully insured, and delivery and pickup land on time as booked.

Pricing for Bin Hire in Bundoora

Most operators quoting Bundoora hide the number behind a form. We publish it. These are starting prices for a standard general-waste load in our Bundoora delivery zone:

  • from $250
  • from $350
  • from $450
  • from $550
  • from $650
  • priced on quote

A heavy stream such as bricks, concrete, soil or tiles is charged at a different rate and filled to a lower line for load safety, because disposal cost follows tonnage. Longer hire periods are quoted at booking rather than bolted on afterwards. Our best-price guarantee with no hidden fees means the figure you hear on the phone is the figure on the invoice at pickup. The larger bodies are quoted because the load and the access vary too much for a flat number to be honest.

Skip Bin Sizes for Your Bundoora Clean-Out or Reno

Bundoora’s housing runs from postwar brick homes on generous blocks through to tighter townhouse and unit stock near the campuses, and the bin follows the load rather than the address. A whole-unit rental clear is bulky but light, mostly abandoned furniture and kitchen leftovers. A kitchen refit or a deck demolition on a family block is heavier and more mixed. Both have a size that fits, and our bins run from 2m3 minis through to 31m3 Hooklift bodies in Marrel, Hooklift and walk-in skip types.

  • 2m3 mini: a single-room rental clear or a garage tidy. The smallest footprint, and it fits a tight townhouse driveway where nothing larger will.
  • 3m3 Marrel: an end-of-lease whole-unit clear or a small bathroom strip-out. Lift-on delivery, so there is no walk-in ramp to find room for.
  • 4m3 Marrel: heavy mixed renovation waste, with a wheelbarrow door for awkward loads. The family-home all-rounder.
  • 6m3 walk-in: a full kitchen renovation or a big garden overhaul, the size most established Bundoora homes settle on.
  • 8m3 walk-in: a whole-house clean-out, a downsize or a deceased estate.
  • 10m3 and larger: multi-room renovations and trade jobs. These step up to walk-in and Hooklift bodies that want straight kerb access.

Stuck between two sizes? Describe the job on the phone and we will steer you to the one that fits, because paying for empty space or running short both cost more than getting it right the first time.

Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery to Bundoora

Bundoora orders confirmed before 9am go out the same day, subject to how busy the run is that morning. After 9am we book you for the next working day. Standard hire runs three to seven days with extensions available, and most domestic jobs out here are done inside three to five. We operate Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday 7am to 1pm, take after-hours calls through the week, and answer online enquiries on Sundays, so a weekend booking is not waiting on a Monday queue.

Two timing notes worth knowing. A street placement that needs a council permit waits on that council’s approval before the bin can land, which is the main reason we settle the permit question at booking rather than on delivery day. And if a tenant is handing back keys on a fixed date, tell us, and we will line the bin up for that day so the unit is empty inside the clear-out window.

Skip Bin Waste Materials Allowed
  • Green Waste

    Garden trimmings, branches, grass clippings

  • General Rubbish

    Household items, old furniture, junk

  • Building Materials

    Bricks, tiles, concrete, plaster

  • Commercial Waste

    Office waste, packaging, light materials

  • Industrial Waste

    Factory debris, non-hazardous by-products

What You Can and Can’t Put in the Bin

Bundoora’s mix of rental clears, family-home renovations and garden jobs throws up most of the common waste streams, and the rules are simple:

  • General waste: household goods, furniture, soft furnishings, timber and mixed renovation debris.
  • Green waste only: clippings, prunings, leaves and small branches. This is the cheapest stream, so book a green-only bin from the start if the job is the garden.
  • Heavy waste: bricks, concrete, soil, tiles and paving rubble. Booked as its own load, charged at a heavy rate and filled to a lower line.
  • Never accepted: asbestos, flammable liquids, wet paints, gas bottles, tyres and batteries. These are excluded by regulation and need specialist handling.

You can mix waste types in a general bin, but you lose the cheaper green-only or heavy-only rate when you do, and bins must not be filled past the load line under OH&S rules. Anything item-specific we sort out in the same booking call, and the full list of what is and isn’t allowed in our skip bins covers the detail.

Skip Bin Waste Materials that are NOT Allowed
  • Wet Paints

    Liquid paints or leftover tins

  • Flammable Liquid

    Petrol, thinners, solvents, oils

  • Asbestos

    Any bonded or loose asbestos

  • Gas Bottles

    BBQ cylinders, LPG tanks

  • Tyres. Batteries*

Car tires, lithium's or lead-acid batteries

Do not overfill skip bins for OH&S reasons

Bin Hire Bundoora

Sizing a Campus Rental Turnover Against a Family-Home Job

In Bundoora the bin is set less by your street than by which of two jobs you are doing, so it is worth knowing which one you are. If you are a property manager working to a key-handover date near the campuses, the load is usually a whole-unit clear of abandoned furniture, mattresses and kitchen leftovers: bulky but light, and often on a tight block where a 3m3 or 4m3 Marrel craned into the driveway is the easy fit, kerbside and a permit more often than not. If you are a homeowner on a block west toward Plenty Road, you are usually planning weeks ahead, with room on the driveway and a heavier, more mixed load from a kitchen, a bathroom or a full garden reset, which is where a 6m3 tends to land with no permit at all.

Tell us which of the two you are and roughly what is coming out, and the size follows from there. We have sized both kinds of job out here every week for years, so the recommendation is built on the load in front of you, not a template.

Bin Hire Across the Banyule Suburbs Near Bundoora

The same daily run that reaches Bundoora covers the City of Banyule suburbs around it, on the same trucks and the same starting prices. Directly south, the established pocket of bin hire in Macleod sits near the same campus edge. West toward the station, the larger residential blocks of bin hire in Watsonia take the same sizes. North-west, on the Banyule and Nillumbik boundary, bin hire in Greensborough handles the established-garden loads of that end. Further south down the same corridor, bin hire in Alphington, bin hire in Bellfield and bin hire in Eaglemont sit on the same weekday run and the same price list. The size guide and the prices above hold wherever the address lands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bundoora in Banyule, Darebin or Whittlesea?

Most of Bundoora is in the City of Banyule. The western edge runs close to the City of Darebin and the eastern and northern fringes touch the City of Whittlesea, so a few streets answer to a different council than their neighbours. It only matters when the skip goes on the street and needs a placement permit. On your own driveway there is no permit at all, and we confirm the council against your exact address before booking.

Do I need a council permit for a skip in Bundoora?

Only if the bin is placed on a public road, nature strip or footpath. On the larger Bundoora blocks the skip usually fits on the driveway, which means no permit is needed. If a street placement is unavoidable, the relevant council issues the permit and charges its current fee, which we confirm with you at booking.

What size skip suits a student-rental clean-out near the campuses?

For a whole-unit clear of furniture and household waste, a 3m3 or 4m3 Marrel is usually right, and the lift-on Marrel suits a tight townhouse driveway. For a full investment-property reset between tenancies, step up to a 6m3 walk-in. Tell us the bedroom count and we will size it to the load.

How much does skip bin hire cost in Bundoora?

A 2m3 mini starts from $250 for general waste in our standard zone. The full per-size starting prices through to the 8m3 are listed in the pricing section above, and the 10m3 and larger bins are priced on quote. Heavy waste and longer hires are quoted at booking, with no hidden fees.
