“There’s no driveway out the front, so where does the skip actually go?” That is the question we hear most often on a Pascoe Vale South job, and on these compact streets it usually has a good answer. Binswest has run skip and mini skip hire across the inner north since 2010, and across more than 6,000 jobs we have learned that the closer-in end of this suburb, the narrow interwar frontages and unit blocks running down toward Brunswick West, often needs the bin lifted in over the fence rather than driven onto a drive. Tell us your street and what you are clearing, and we will work out how the bin lands before you book anything.
Can a Skip Reach Your Frontage Without a Driveway?
The streets here sit tighter than the larger family blocks in Pascoe Vale proper, so the first thing worth sorting is access, not size. A compact home, a unit, or a townhouse on a single-line frontage frequently has no driveway and no side return wide enough for a truck. That changes how the bin gets to you, and we have two ways to handle it.
A lift-on Marrel bin solves most of these. It arrives on a truck fitted with a crane: the truck stays on the road, and the bin is lifted over the front fence into a courtyard, onto a hardstand, or onto a tight strip of yard a walk-in skip could never reach. A walk-in needs a tilt-tray to reverse in and slide the bin off, so it wants width and overhead clearance that a narrow Pascoe Vale South frontage often will not give. Tell us where you picture the bin sitting and roughly how wide the front of the property is, and we will match the bin type to what the access allows. Getting that right is the difference between a clean drop and a truck that arrives unable to finish the job, which is exactly the surprise we plan out of the booking.
About Binswest
Binswest has hired skip bins across Melbourne’s western, northern, CBD and inner suburbs since 2010, and the business is still family-run. Founder Mark started it to give the local area one reliable operator for waste, and the team of seven now carries close to 100 years of combined experience in sorting and recycling. More than 6,000 clients have hired from us since, with around a quarter of new bookings now arriving by referral. Every load comes back to our own Government-Approved Waste Transfer Station in Sunshine North, where it is sorted by hand. In 2024 that recovered 41% of what we collected for recycling and another 35% for repurposing, leaving 24% for landfill, so more than three-quarters of a typical Pascoe Vale South load stays out of the ground.
Pricing for Bin Hire in Pascoe Vale South
Most operators in this pocket keep the number behind a quote form. We put ours in writing so you can read it before you call:
-
from $250
-
from $350
-
from $450
-
from $550
-
from $650
-
priced on quote
For a typical single-room unit strip-out, that puts you on a 4m3 from $450. Heavy waste such as brick, concrete, soil and tile rubble carries a weight allowance, because dense fill can reach a bin’s limit while it still looks half empty. A longer hire is quoted when you book rather than added at pickup. The best-price guarantee comes with no hidden fees, and the starting price already includes the run from our yard, so there is no surprise distance charge when the truck reaches your street.
Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery to Pascoe Vale South
Pascoe Vale South sits on our daily inner-north round, so a bin here is part of the routine run rather than a special trip. Book before 9am and the bin can usually go out the same day, depending on how full the run already is; book later and you are on the next available slot. Our hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday 7am to 1pm, with after-hours support through the week and online enquiries answered on Sundays. A standard hire runs three to seven days, with extensions if your project takes longer, which suits the unit refits and single-room jobs common around here. Two timing notes for these streets: a bin that needs a kerbside spot has to wait on the council permit before it can land, and a larger hooklift bin wants about a day’s notice for the bigger truck.
- Monday to Friday7am – 5pm
- Saturday7am – 5pm
Which Skip Size Suits Your Job?
Because so much of the work here is unit clear-outs and tight-access placements, the smaller, craneable sizes do most of the lifting. Our range runs from 2m3 minis through to 31m3 hooklift bins.
- 2m3: a single-room declutter, a courtyard tidy, or a small garden clear. Fits a narrow side gap or lifts straight over the fence.
- 3m3: a small kitchen refit, a unit clear-out, or a solid garage and shed sort.
- 4m3: the size we book most here, suited to a single-room renovation or a full unit strip-out carrying tile and broken brick. Available as a lift-on Marrel where there is no driveway.
- 6m3: a larger renovation or a combined home-and-garden clear, where a tilt-tray has room to set it down.
- 8m3: a whole-house refit, or a townhouse-block clear on one of the wider frontages.
- 10m3 and larger: builder and demolition loads where the truck has straight kerb access. These run up to 31m3 and are priced on quote.
If you are clearing a flat between tenants, sorting through a unit that has filled up over the years, or pulling one room back to the studs, the 4m3 is usually the honest fit. Soil, turf, brick and tile are heavier than they look, so if your load runs to hard fill, mention it and we will check the weight against the size rather than let you over-fill a small bin.
- Green Waste
Garden trimmings, branches, grass clippings
- General Rubbish
Household items, old furniture, junk
- Building Materials
Bricks, tiles, concrete, plaster
- Commercial Waste
Office waste, packaging, light materials
- Industrial Waste
Factory debris, non-hazardous by-products
What You Can and Can’t Put in the Bin
A general-waste bin takes the everyday mixed load: household rubbish, furniture, timber, plaster, cardboard and soft fittings, plus light garden waste. Brick, concrete, soil and tile rubble go in a separate heavy-waste bin so the load stays inside OH&S limits. Two materials are worth flagging before an older Pascoe Vale South strip-out starts. Asbestos turns up in the interwar stock around here, in eaves sheeting, bathroom splashbacks and shed roofing, and it cannot go in any skip from any operator. It needs a licensed asbestos removalist, so it is worth checking before a pre-1990 unit or home comes apart. Lead paint on old timber trims needs sealed-bag handling. Flammable liquids, wet paint, gas bottles, tyres and batteries never go in any bin. The full list and how mixed loads are handled sit on our guide to what is allowed in our skip bins.
- Wet Paints
Liquid paints or leftover tins
- Flammable Liquid
Petrol, thinners, solvents, oils
- Asbestos
Any bonded or loose asbestos
- Gas Bottles
BBQ cylinders, LPG tanks
- Tyres. Batteries*
Car tires, lithium's or lead-acid batteries
Do not overfill skip bins for OH&S reasons

Do You Need a Merri-bek Permit?
Pascoe Vale South is in the City of Merri-bek, the council renamed from Moreland in 2022, with the same office, fees and process behind the new name. Whether you need a placement permit comes down to one thing: where the bin sits. Kept entirely on your own property, a driveway, a hardstand, or a courtyard the crane can reach over the fence, it needs no permit. The moment it sits on the road, the nature strip or the footpath, that is public land and Merri-bek requires a permit for it.
On the tighter frontages here that kerbside case comes up more often than it does on the wide-driveway streets to the north, which is why we ask for your exact address before quoting rather than assume the suburb works one way. We do not lodge the permit for you, but we will tell you plainly whether your street is likely to need one and point you to the council’s process, so the approval time is built into your delivery date instead of found on the day. We will confirm the current council fee with you at booking rather than print a figure here that may have moved.
How a Unit Strip-Out Quote Comes Together
A unit refit or a single-room job throws up a heavy, mixed load, old cabinetry, tile, plaster and fittings, packed into a small footprint, and on these streets it usually pairs with a craned lift-on bin because the kerb or a courtyard is the only spot. That combination is why we read the frontage first. Get the bin type wrong on a no-driveway block and the truck cannot complete the drop; get the size wrong on dense fill and the load tops out at half height. So when you call, we ask three things: which rooms are coming out, how the front of the property is laid out, and whether there is anything heavy in the mix. From that we name the bin type, the size, whether a permit is likely, and a flat price, before anything is locked in. After sixteen years working the inner north, that conversation takes about as long as reading this paragraph.
Suburbs We Service Around Pascoe Vale South
Pascoe Vale South is one of several Merri-bek suburbs on our daily round, and the council and permit process is the same across them, so a job that crosses a boundary does not change answer halfway down the street:
- Bin hire in Pascoe Vale, the larger-block family grid to the north that shares the 3044 postcode, where wide driveways usually keep the permit out of it.
- Bin hire in Brunswick West, the next pocket south toward the Maribyrnong, where the placement answer turns block by block.
- Bin hire in Brunswick East, the terrace and apartment streets toward the Lygon Street end, much the same tight-frontage call.
- Bin hire in Coburg North, the brick-veneer streets and Sydney Road workshop frontages a little to the east.
For pricing, delivery windows and permit notes across the wider network, the bin hire Melbourne hub pulls it all together.
Frequently Asked Questions
A lift-on Marrel bin is craned in from a truck parked on the road and set down over the front fence, into a courtyard, onto a hardstand, or onto a strip of yard a tilt-tray could never reach. If the only spot is the road or the nature strip, that is public land and a Merri-bek permit comes in. We confirm both the bin type and where it can stand against your actual street before the truck is booked.
A 4m3 is the usual call, with room for the cabinetry, tile and old fittings a unit refit throws off, and it cranes neatly onto a frontage with no driveway. A smaller declutter or courtyard tidy sits on a 2m3, and a whole-unit-plus-garden clear can step up to a 6m3 where a tilt-tray has room. Tell us the rooms and we will size it.
Merri-bek. The council was renamed from Moreland in 2022, keeping the same office, fees and process. Some older provider pages and forms still show Moreland, but for a Pascoe Vale South street today the permit is issued by the City of Merri-bek.
Yes. A general-waste bin takes the mixed reno load and light garden waste together, plaster, timber, old fittings, clippings and prunings in one go, which suits the combined unit-and-courtyard jobs common here. If the garden side turns into a full dig-out, soil and turf are heavy, so we will flag a weight allowance.
Pascoe Vale South is on our daily inner-north run, so a same-day drop is often there if you book before 9am, subject to how busy the run is. A kerbside placement that needs a permit waits on council approval first, and a large hooklift bin wants about a day’s notice.
