Stripping out an office floor, clearing a converted warehouse unit, or pulling a shopfront apart for a refit? On most Cremorne streets the question that settles a bin hire booking is not the size you order, it is where a skip can legally stand. Binswest has run a daily inner-east round from our Sunshine North yard since 2010, and across more than 6,000 jobs we have learned that this small workplace pocket of Cremorne, in Melbourne’s City of Yarra, hands a skip nowhere to go but the kerb or a loading bay. So a City of Yarra placement permit is usually in play, and on a tight one-way block the timing of the drop matters as much as the size. Tell us your address and what is coming out, and we will work the placement, the size and a written price in the one call. Phone 0427 166 444 for a free quote.
Getting a Skip In When the Only Spot Is the Kerb or a Loading Bay
Cremorne is barely a kilometre across and it was built to work, not to garden. Converted brick warehouses, office and studio fit-outs, a handful of single-fronted terraces, and the occasional new apartment building make up the streetscape, and very few of those addresses keep a driveway or an off-street bay free for a week. That is the first thing we sort, because it decides everything that follows.
The moment a skip sits on a public road, a footpath or a nature strip, the placement falls under a City of Yarra permit. Keep the bin entirely on private property, a yard behind a roller door, an off-street loading bay, or a body-corporate space you have cleared, and no permit comes into it at all. Most Cremorne jobs land on the kerb or in a loading zone, so the permit conversation is normal here rather than the exception.
Then there is the street layout, which is where this precinct earns its own handling. A good share of the blocks run one-way and narrow, so a tilt-tray needs a clear line to set a bin down and lift it off again. A loading-zone position often carries hours you have to work around, which means a strip-out that needs the bin out front during trading is a timing question worth settling up front, not a guess on the day. We check the spot suits the truck and the council before anything leaves the yard.
About Binswest
Most Cremorne work needs operational trust more than anything else: a crew that knows the precinct and a yard that can prove where the waste ends up. Binswest is a family-owned business, started in 2010 by Mark and run by the same family 16 years on, with more than 6,000 clients served across Melbourne’s western, northern, CBD and inner suburbs. That stretch of time on inner-east streets is why a commercial strip-out and a one-bedroom terrace declutter get sized and timed differently from the first call.
It also shapes what happens after pickup. Every load comes back to our Government-Approved Waste Transfer Station in Sunshine North and is sorted there. In 2024 that sorting recovered 41% to recycling and 35% to repurposing, leaving 24% to landfill, so roughly three-quarters of a Cremorne fit-out stayed out of the ground. For a commercial client who has to account for their waste, those figures are reportable, and we can supply them with the job.
Pricing for Bin Hire in Cremorne
Plenty of operators along this corridor keep the number behind a quote form. We publish ours. These are starting prices for general waste in our standard delivery zone:
-
from $250
-
from $350
-
from $450
-
from $550
-
from $650
-
priced on quote
Heavy waste such as bricks, concrete and soil is weight-limited and quoted on top, and a longer hire than the standard period is settled when you book. A single office room often lands on the 3m3 from $350, while a whole-floor strip-out is usually the 8m3 from $650. The 10m3 and the bigger hooklift bins that suit a multi-floor commercial job carry no fixed price, because the load and the access vary too much to pin one down, so we quote those directly. The starting price already covers the run from our depot, so there is no surprise distance fee at the gate.
Which Skip Size Suits Your Cremorne Job
A fit-out throws out a very different load to a flat clear-out, so sizing here starts with the work in front of you. An office strip-out runs heavy on partitions, ceiling tiles, carpet and old workstation timber. A warehouse-conversion unit refit is mixed renovation waste. An apartment clear-out is smaller and lighter. Our bins run from a 2m3 mini up to a 31m3 hooklift, and these are the sizes Cremorne bookings use most:
- 2m3 mini (1.8m long, 1.5m wide, 0.9m high): an apartment clear-out, a single office room, cafe fit-out offcuts.
- 3m3 Marrel (2.4 x 1.5 x 0.97m): a small studio or retail refit, a cubicle clear.
- 4m3 Marrel with a wheelbarrow door (3.2 x 1.5 x 0.96m): heavier mixed renovation waste, a single warehouse-apartment unit.
- 6m3 walk-in (3.3 x 1.5 x 1.5m): an office floor refit or a larger residential renovation.
- 8m3 walk-in (3.3 x 1.5 x 1.8m): a whole-floor commercial fit-out or a strip-out phase.
For a multi-floor strip-out or a building-wide refurbishment, a 10m3 or one of the larger hooklift bodies usually does it. Those are sized and priced once we know the materials and how the truck reaches the building. Not sure which way to go? Tell us the floor area and roughly what is being torn out, and we will match the bin to it.

When the City of Yarra Asks for a Permit
Cremorne sits wholly inside the City of Yarra, so there is no council boundary to untangle here, only the placement. The rule is short: a bin on private property needs no permit, and a bin on a public road, footpath or nature strip does. The council sets and collects the placement-permit fee, and we will confirm the current rate and lodge the timing against your street when you book.
Two local realities are worth flagging before the truck is dispatched. A loading-zone spot usually comes with hours, so a strip-out that needs the bin out front during trade is a timing job we plan with you rather than risk on the day. And on the narrow one-way blocks the position has to suit the tilt-tray as well as the council, which is exactly what our desk reads against your address first. The full process is on the City of Yarra website, and we will tell you whether your job needs it.

What You Can and Can’t Put in the Bin
A Cremorne fit-out generates a particular mix, and a couple of items need a different pathway:
- Office furniture, partitions, ceiling tiles, carpet and timber go in as general waste.
- Electronics such as monitors, computers and servers are e-waste, not general waste. Mention them at booking and we can pair an e-waste pickup.
- Lead paint and coated structural steel from an older brick warehouse are handled separately, so flag them before the bin lands.
Some things never go in any skip, from any operator: asbestos, flammable liquids, wet paint, gas bottles, tyres and batteries. Asbestos in particular turns up in pre-1980s warehouse roofing and lagging and has to go to a licensed removalist. Bins also cannot be filled above the rim, which keeps the load safe and legal on the truck. The full list of what is allowed lives on our skip bin guide, and we will talk through anything item-specific when you book.
- Wet Paints
Liquid paints or leftover tins
- Flammable Liquid
Petrol, thinners, solvents, oils
- Asbestos
Any bonded or loose asbestos
- Gas Bottles
BBQ cylinders, LPG tanks
- Tyres. Batteries*
Car tires, lithium's or lead-acid batteries
Do not overfill skip bins for OH&S reasons

Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery to Cremorne
Book before 9am and the bin goes out the same day, subject to how full the run already is. After 9am it is next-day in nearly every case. Our hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday 7am to 1pm, with after-hours support Monday to Saturday and online enquiries answered on Sundays.
A few Cremorne jobs want a little lead time. The larger hooklift bodies need 24 hours’ notice, a permit-required kerb placement waits on the council’s approval window, and a loading-bay drop is timed around the building’s access hours. The standard hire runs a few days to a week, which covers most fit-outs. If a strip-out is going to stretch longer than that, we set it up at booking so the bin is neither in your way nor gone too soon.
Suburbs We Service Around Cremorne
Cremorne shares the 3121 postcode and the City of Yarra with the suburbs right next door, so the same truck and the same pricing carry straight across the line. We also cover Richmond, the broad 3121 page taking in the Bridge Road and Swan Street strips, along with bin hire in Burnley in the small terrace pocket on the river side and bin hire in Abbotsford across the terraces and warehouse conversions on the river bend. The same City of Yarra round also carries north to bin hire in Alphington. For the metro picture across all our council areas, our Melbourne bin hire page pulls it together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, that is the everyday Cremorne drop. We check the spot suits both the City of Yarra and the tilt-tray, and we time the delivery around any loading-zone hours, before the truck leaves the yard. Give us the address and we will tell you exactly how the placement works on your block.
A single room or a cubicle clear usually fits a 3m3 from $350. A whole-floor strip-out generally needs an 8m3 from $650, and a multi-floor refurbishment runs to a 10m3 or larger, which we quote on the materials and access. Tell us the floor area and what is being stripped out, and we will size it.
Only when the bin sits on a public road, footpath or nature strip, which on most Cremorne streets it does, because off-street room is rare. On private property, a yard or a loading bay, you do not. We confirm the council’s current permit fee and sort the placement timing when you book.
Starting prices run from $250 for a 2m3 mini up through the range, with 10m3 and larger priced on quote. Heavy waste and longer hires are quoted on top, and the starting price already covers the run from our depot, so there is no surprise distance fee.
